My Vision for the Future

People often ask me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”  Well, I’ve been thinking about it.  Here’s my answer.

I am helping my two younger brothers enjoy horses.

I am helping my two younger brothers enjoy horses.

I want to own the best horse ranch in Texas.  It will have 100 horses and top-notch facilities.  I want to own quarter horses, paints, and a few thoroughbreds.  I will be breeding, training, and selling my horses.

My sister, Kyla, will work with me.  She will raise her family on my ranch.  She wants to open a summer day camp on the ranch.  Kyla wants to combine horses and horsemanship with hiking, fishing, and games for the kids at her camp.

I want to keep this website as I help others to enjoy horses and learn about them.  I would like to teach horsemanship and horseback riding at my ranch and around the country in clinics.  I want to be like Clinton Anderson.

I watch Clinton Anderson’s show on RFD TV.  He owns Downunder Horsemanship.  I learned a lot from his Horsemanship Clinic in Conroe, Texas.  I wrote an article about it called, “Inspired by a Horsemanship Clinic.”  I am in the process of reading his book, too.

I have a friend who is a cowboy.  His name is Steve Pruitt.  He gentles horses for people.  He is a good man and a good horseman.  I would like to learn from him, too.

My grandma and PawPaw are good horsemen also.  They teach me here on the ranch.  Because I have been learning so much from Clinton Anderson, they are letting me apply what I have learned.  For example, last Saturday I performed the human currycomb to one of their horses.  Her name is Shania and she had never had anyone do that to her before.  I cannot say that she enjoys it, but she will soon.  They are impressed with me and are going to pay me for working with their horses.

I am excited about my future.  I am glad that we live out in the country where we have plenty of pasture, pens, and horses to work with.  I am glad that I am learning from other people.  I am glad that I am able to teach others too.  Keep me in mind with your horse questions.  Ask me and I will try my best to give a good answer.  I hope that my vision for the future comes true.

Jake, I think that is wonderful that at your young age you are already thinking about your future. I can only wish you the best. It sounds like a great plan. I hope that whatever you do, you do what you enjoy.
